Larry, Ag in the Classroom Coordinator for McHenry County Farm Bureau shows us differences in fuel emissions, first looking at a 90% gasoline / 10% ethanol, then E85 – 15% gasoline / 85% ethanol, then 2 cycle fuel – a gasoline/oil mixture, lastly kerosene, which is used for some airplanes. After viewing the burning of just one chemistry stick, you can see that ethanol burns much cleaner than gas.

Thx…nice vid
CAN I FILL UP MY TANK WITH E85 I HAVE A 98 TOYOTA 1.8 ? GOOD VIEDO SIR
Ethanol adds water to your tank. Just one step closer to hydrogen vehicles. WOOT!
Good demo.
This experiment is nonsense as the fuels each require differing amounts of oxygen relative to their density, not only are the fuels burning in a reduced atmosphere inside a closed jar, the less dense ethanol is more suited to being burned off a chemistry stick, do the experiment again making sure each fuel is atomised for optimum combustion, also take into account the usable energy released versus emissions
i thought its the drink burn
just because the smoke from it is dark doesnt mean that its the most hazardous to the environment, what is the level of formaldahyde trapped in the jar from the ethanol i wonder
I like e85 for the extra power you can make with it.. turn up the boost !
anyone who believes that it takes more energy to make ethanol than it produces when it is simply brewed out of any fermentable stock right here at home but it doesnt take much energy to extract raw oil out of the ground in the middle east , protect it with men shipped there to die for their country on diesel ships , ship it to the us to refine it just proves the oil companies have more funds for marketing , think…..
Should have tried with diesel
This is, of course, not taking into account the amount of gasoline and diesel required in the cultivation of current crops (corn, soy, etc) to create ethanol, as well as the substantial amount of water pollutants that flow down the Mississippi and contribute to the widespread obliteration of aquatic life in the Gulf of Mexico.
In my personal opinion, I think gasoline is still a great fuel, just so long as you make it out of algae, which can grow in places like high desert wastelands.
excellent way to demonstrate the pollution emissions
@martynasgrazulis It still shows the fuel that burns cleaner naturally. even a controlled combustion could use some extra oxygen to help it along. I have had allot of success with ethanol.
awesomee
